Scholarships, alternative investments ‘invaluable’

University endowments invest in hedge funds, and depend on them to grow their investments so they can pass on the returns to aspiring students who depend on scholarship funds. Hedge funds deliver for South Carolina’s students, and Jordan Wiley explains how in a letter to the editor for GoUpstate. Key excerpts can be found below.

“Truth is, very few students or even alumni realize that the scholarships they receive are a direct result of their school’s investment in hedge funds and other alternative investment funds. But many people – like me – know that college might otherwise not be affordable, making these scholarships invaluable.”

“It is critical that these investments remain available to colleges and universities around the country so they can continue to award life-changing scholarships to allow people like myself to reach their American dream.”
